Description
This 20.1 km route connects three prominent Birdwatching Points of Interest (PIO) between Santa Marta de Magasca and Sierra de Fuentes, crossing the Special Protection Areas (SPAs) Llanos de Cáceres and Riberos del Almonte. The route begins at PIO 01 Cordel del Casar, a privileged enclave for observing steppe birds and raptors such as the great bustard, the little bustard, and the Spanish imperial eagle. It continues towards PIO 16 Riberos del Tamuja, where the Mediterranean forest and the river create an ideal habitat for species such as the black stork and the kingfisher. The itinerary ends at PIO 17 Riberos del Magasca, with riverside areas frequented by the European honey buzzard, the black kite, and the grey heron. In addition to its high natural value, the route has viewpoints and observation huts, offering an accessible experience that can be complemented with a visit to other tourist attractions in the Sierra de Montánchez and Tamuja region.
